Cisco has released its Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update (2014-2019) and revealed which smartphone apps and tablet apps use the most data.
As you can see in the charts below, Facebook generates the most cellular and Wi-Fi traffic on smartphones. It's followed by YouTube, Web Browsers, and Netflix.
On tablets YouTube manages to capture first place, likely due to higher video quality being streamed to tablets. It's followed by Netflix on Wi-Fi, Browsers, then Facebook.
Other top traffic generating apps include: Maps, Spotify, Instagram, Whatsapp, tinyCam Monitor, Sound Cloud, Hulu Plus and more.
